The South Gloucester Learning Trust
The South Gloucester Learning Trust comprises –
Beaufort Community School, Grange Primary School, Harewood Junior School, University of Gloucestershire, NHS Gloucestershire, The Midcounties Cooperative Society, NCH Action for Children In addition Tuffley Primary School and Harewood Infants School have indicated a wish to be associate members of the Trust. The aim of our Trust is to promote the education and well being of young people and their families in the South of Gloucester, particularly Tuffley, Grange and Podsmead. First and foremost our primary objective is to raise levels of educational attainment at all ages for young people in our local community.
However we know only too well how closely educational success is linked to the well being and health of young people and other members of their family – which is why we are delighted that we have been able to form a partnership with other organisations to support our vision. One final aspect of our Trust is that we have established a Cooperative Learning Trust. A Cooperative Trust is one in which employees, parents, pupils and members of the local community are able to become members of a Community Forum which in turn can elect two Trustees to the Trust.
In this way we hope that the operation of the Trust will be responsive to the people it is intended to serve. We have a second launch day planned – one for our pupils. On Wednesday 13th October pupils from across our partner schools will be taking part in a range of activities linked to healthy lifestyles, and preparation for working life, and I am very grateful for all the help we have received from our partner organisations in planning for that day. The real test of our Trust will be that it means something to and makes a difference for the young people in our schools. We face some enormous challenges in the public sector in the next years, not least within Gloucestershire.
If we are to maintain and even improve the quality of services to young people and their families we will need to work far more efficiently and effectively. Stronger Partnership working in localities may well be the way forward to meet that challenge. Our hope is that our Partnership will make a real difference to the families who live in the South of Gloucester.
