What are the ECDL Modules?
The qualification consists of seven modules
Module 1: Basic Concepts of IT (Theory Module)
Module 2: Using the Computer and Managing Files
Module 3: Word Processing
Module 4: Spreadsheets
Module 5: Databases
Module 6: Presentations
Module 7: Information & Communication (Internet & Email)

Do I have to study all 7 modules?
To get the ECDL certification, all 7 modules must be completed.

What must I do to start?

What is the logbook?
The logbook is a record of a candidate’s successful tests. You will
not receive a logbook until you are ready to take your first test. You
will not be permitted to take a certification exam without your logbook.
Candidates with special needs may qualify for extra time to take
exams. If you think this may apply to you, contact Staff Development on
(79) 2287. It will take 20 working days to complete a Special Needs
application, so please contact us as soon as possible.

How difficult
are the tests?
Like all tests, the ECDL is not difficult if you are prepared. The
assessment test and invigilator will help you determine whether you are
ready to sit the exam.

What if I don’t want to take the exam?
If you decide you don’t want to take the certification exam, There is
no pressure to take the exam; only take it when you feel you are ready.
You can come back at a later time to take the exam or do another
assessment test.

What happens if I decide to take the
exam?
All notes must be put away in bags or folders. Mobile phones must be
turned off or put on silent. You will be logged into the testing system
by the invigilator, then you may start the test. You will not be
permitted to leave the room, or talk with other delegates or the
invigilator during the test.
You have 45 minutes to complete the test. You will receive your
results immediately upon finishing the exam. Once the invigilator has
seen the results of the exam, successful candidates will have their
logbooks stamped.

What happens if I fail?
If you fail an exam, you may retake it but not on the same day. If
you need further advice on studying, speak with the invigilator after
other delegates have completed the exam.

How long does it take to complete the
ECDL?
You have three years to complete all 7 modules of the ECDL
certification. On average, most delegates complete the certification in
12-13 months.
