School Travel Plan

The school has recently surveyed over 700 pupils and the staff about their journey to the site each day. The finding of the survey will form part of a School Travel Plan currently being drafted with Gloucestershire County Council. The aim of the plan is to assess how people access the school site every day and to plan ways in which this could be done in a more sustainable way in the future. The School Council met with Anne Johns from GCC, to discuss the findings of the survey and put forward suggestions for ways to encourage all users of the school site to travel in a more sustainable way.

The School Council meeting to discuss the survey results and to work on initiatives to improve the sustainability of transport to and from the schoolThe survey results highlighted a generally pleasing picture, but with specific concerns issues of safety and security raised. The School Council will be following up concerns with The Highways Agency and Stagecoach.

Survey results:

Of the 707 pupils who responded to the survey, 70% travelled using a sustainable method of transport:

42% of Pupils walk to school

16% of Pupils travel to school by bus

12% of Pupils cycle to school

As part of the initiatives planned to encourage a better profile for the school, the school will be holding a sustainable travel week in June to coincide with National Bike Week.

If you have any comments or suggestions about how the school could encourage a more sustainable approach to the school journey please contact Mr. Nye (Assistant Headteacher) at the school, or email the school: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Beaufort in the Snow - But Still Open!

Beaufort Community School - Open in the SnowFrom the Headteacher...

I would like to thank all parents and staff in supporting the school in keeping open for most days in the recent bad weather. We were forced to close on Thursday and Friday of last week due to the safety of the school site and because so few staff were able to reach the school from home. This is the first time the school has been forced to close for bad weather in the last twelve years!

We will always try to keep you informed of the current situation in poor weather. The school website is always the most reliable and up-to-date source of information, particularly as the County Council website cannot always cope with the number of people trying to access it at once. Similarly Radio Gloucestershire is usually more reliable for information about school closures than Severn Sound. We also used text and voicemail to contact parents last week and we hope that was successful - but apologies to those who received the message more than once!

We have re-arranged Year 11 Parents Evening for Thursday 12th February between 5.00pm and 7.00pm, and I hope that the majority of parents can attend this very important event.

Malcolm Bride
Headteacher

Brand-New Website!

Welcome to our brand-new website.

As you may be aware we have been experiencing technical difficulties with our website for some weeks now.
You'll be pleased to know that the inconvience to our visitors and your comments have not been ignored.

While our external support delayed in finding a solution we decided to start work on a new website to replace our old sites important functions as soon as possible.
We have enjoyed the chance to re-design the website in the process with an aim to create a fresh, easy to use and fully expandable website.

Please note that it may be a short time before all of the content from our preivious site is transfered to the new one.

Thank you for your patience.
