Top Ten Tips to be a Successful Student
- Be organised – keep a diary with deadlines etc. Do not leave everything until the last minute.
- Take opportunities to discuss your progress with your subject teachers.
- Organise your week so there is a balance between school work, leisure, plus paid work if you decide to do this. Paid work should not exceed ten hours.
- Use your private study lessons productively, plan what you need to accomplish in each one over a day.
- Set achievable targets when you receive work back and marked. Keep these "up front" for your next piece of work.
- Talk to your Tutor about your progress and aspirations. Keep them informed.
- Work out the best techniques for revision – revision cards, mind maps, etc. Do these throughout the course. Do not leave everything until the last minute. You will not have a great amount of time for revision just before your final exams.
- Punctuality to all lessons and tutorials is vital. Five minutes late per lesson represents about 25 periods lost per subject over a school year.
- Treat each piece of work and anything you read or see from the perspective of how can this be useful to my studies.
- Give as well as take. Take advantages of the opportunities it provides and accept the responsibilities it requires of you.
