Design and Technology at Beaufort is a popular and successful subject that allows students to explore new technologies, analyse everyday products and be innovative and creative. The school has specialist technology status that gives all students the opportunity to study design and technology thoughout key stage 3 and key stage 4 gaining experience in food technology, graphics, resistant materials, textiles, electronics and manufacturing.

The department is made of specialist teachers who use a wide variety of learning styles within their lessons including learning through practical work, group work, design based tasks and product analysis. All teachers stress the importance of completing high quality design and practical work. 

The facilities include 2 state of the art food technology and catering rooms, 2 textiles rooms, 3 well equipped workshops, a graphics room and a CAD /CAM room fitted with a laser cutter. The department  has over 60 computers and interactive whiteboards in each teaching room
