Design and Technology at key stage 3

At keystage 3 the department aims to give students a broad understanding of all areas of Design and Technology and the impact that the subject has on every day society. Students develop design skills, learn about types and properties of materials and develop practical skills that enable them to make quality products.

In Years 7&8 students are given the opportunity to work with food, textiles, graphic products, woods metals, plastics and electronics. In each of these areas they will apply design skills and use ICT to support their learning. All students will also gain a Licence to Cook certificate.

In Year 9 students elect to work in the material area of their choice in order to further develop their skills in readiness for their GCSE qualifications.
