A level Textiles

 Level: 3

Content:

This course is completely different to GCSE Textiles as it involves very little writing and is all practical based. Students will be introduced to a variety of experiences exploring a range of Textile

Media and techniques. Pupils will explore images, artefacts, photographs, resources relating to art and design, craft and design, from the past and recent times, including European and non-European examples. Pupils will go on to develop a personal response using a range of techniques of their choice in one or more of the areas listed below;

  • Constructed and installed textiles
  • Printed and/or dyed fabric and materials
  • Domestic textiles, wallpaper and interior design
  • Fashion

Assessment:

AS Unit 1 - 50%

 A unit of work consisting of a number of drawings/ideas which

leads to samples and finally a finished piece.

AS Unit 2 - 50%

An exam in which you carry out preparation over a number of

weeks in the format of sketch book work, samples and finally you

sit a 5 hour exam where you will work on a finished piece.

A2 Unit 3 - 50%

Like unit 1 at AS level but working to a higher standard and with

more precision and includes a 2000-3000 piece of writing that

supports your work.

A2 Unit 4 - 50%

A 15 hour exam where you will work on a finished piece that has

been derived from a starting point externally set and prepared in

the weeks before.

 

This course is for you if:

You like working with a variety of textile methods and different

fabrics such as;

Fabric printing (mono, screen and collagraph printing)

Surface manipulation

Dress making

Fashion illustration

Transfer and fabric construction

Appliqué, patchwork, padding, quilting and/or embroidery

You enjoy gallery visits and learning new techniques

 

What could you do after studying this subject?

Fashion Design, Textile Design, Interior Design, Art and Design
