Level: 3
The AS course can be used in two ways:
As a final qualification, allowing students to broaden their studies and to defer decisions about specialising,
or
As the first half of an A2 qualification.
Content:
Core Mathematics:
Solving algebraic equations, drawing graphs, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, differentiation, integration, sequences, vectors, exponentials and logarithms.
Decision Mathematics:
Problem solving, linear programming, algorithms, graphs and networks.
Statistics:
Processing data, statistical measures and probability.
Assessment:
AS level Mathematics consists of three modules: Core 1, Core 2, and Statistics 1.
Examinations are in January and June of Year 12.
A2 level Mathematics consists of a further three modules: Core 3, Core 4 and Decision 1.
Examinations are in January and June of Year 13.
There is no coursework in this subject at AS or A2.
