The Religious Education Department

 

Religious Education seeks to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils at Beaufort. The R.E. department follows the guidelines established in the County's Agreed Syllabus which has two attainment targets: learning about religion (such as the key teachings of Christianity, Buddhism and Sikhism) and learning from religion (when pupils respond to these teachings by deciding what their own opinions are and why).   The topics covered at Key Stage 3 are as follows:

  • Teachings of the Ten Gurus: what meaning and relevance do they have for Sikhs today?

  • How do we know what is true?
  • How do humans express their spirituality?

Yr9

  • Was Jesus God on earth?

 

  • Christian faith in action – the stories of Nicky Cruz and Jackie Pullinger
  • Do the teachings of Jesus stand the test of time?

 

  At Key Stage 4 pupils follow the AQA exam syllabus: Religious Studies B - Religion and Life Issues. The topics covered are:
  • Religion and early life.
  • Religion, war and peace.
  • Religion and prejudice.
  • Religion and planet Earth.
  • Religion and animal rights.
  • Religion and young people.
At Key Stage 5, R.E. forms an element of the enrichment programme that all Year 12 and 13 students take.
