Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9)

Work-related Learning and Enterprise is available to all students in each year group. WRL and Enterprise is delivered through units of work in Citizenship lessons. Students are entitled to receive information, advice and guidance about jobs from fully trained careers experts in one to one settings at any convenient time. Students learn what is meant by a job, a career, work and employment. Students begin to take ownership of their career management. Lifestyle is considered in relation to choice of occupation and issues of equality and stereotyping are investigated. The importance of enterprise education is introduced and students are made aware of how to be enterprising through a programme of study entitled ‘The Real Game’.  In Year Nine, students are supported in planning the transition from Key Stage Three into Key Stage Four with a programme of work connected to decision making and choice.

Key stage 4 (Years 10 -11)

Work-related Learning and Enterprise is available to all students in each year group. WRL and Enterprise is delivered through units of work in Citizenship lessons. Every student chooses a placement to go to on work experience for five days at the end of Year 10. On return to school students take part in an analysis of their work experience in a debriefing session. Students learn about employability skills, job opportunities in the south west and how to manage labour market information. Enterprise skills are further developed through planning an enterprise model through to its readiness for delivery. Entrepreneurship is also considered as a potential step when leaving school/college/university. Every student is given the opportunity to take part in a mock interview delivered by people who interview candidates as part of their job. This aims to inject reality into job or placement searches.

Careers information is a key element as it helps to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make successful choices, manage transitions in learning and move into work. Careers Guidance is offered to enable young people to use the knowledge and skills they have gained to make decisions about learning and work that are right for them
